There's a particular kind of nervousness that comes with meeting someone for the first time — the good kind. The kind that means something is about to matter.
There's a particular kind of nervousness that comes with meeting someone for the first time — the good kind. The kind that means something is about to matter. I feel it too, every time. I think people assume I don't — that this is routine for me. But every person who walks through my door is a new story, and I never know which chapter we'll end up writing together. The best encounters start with honesty. Tell me what you're hoping for. Tell me what you're afraid of. I promise the real thing is always better than the fantasy, because the real thing has warmth in it.

People ask me why I'm getting a BSW while doing this work. The answer is simpler than they expect — both are about seeing people clearly. In my studies, I learn about systems and structures and the ways people fall through cracks. In my work, I meet the people. Sometimes they're lonely. Sometimes they're grieving something they can't name. Sometimes they just want to laugh with someone who isn't keeping score. I don't think these two worlds are as far apart as people assume. Compassion is compassion. Presence is presence.

Boundaries aren't walls. They're the architecture that makes intimacy possible. Without them, nothing feels safe enough to be real. My screening process, my deposit policy, my communication preferences — these aren't obstacles. They're the foundation. When you respect them, you're telling me something important: that you understand what it takes to create a space where two people can actually meet each other. And that's where the magic happens — in the space that trust builds.
